The following consists of my coursework at FSU from internships to classes that I feel I really gained something valuable from.
General Knowledge of Java - Prior to this course I was familiar with Java but never really knew how to work with it. After this course I feel I became familiar enough with Java that I could successfully work with loops, arrays, and polymorphism (just to name a few). I served as team leader and we got an A!
General Knowledge of Web Applications - I'm not going to lie, I already knew about 75% of this class prior to stepping foot into the classroom, but I have always said that practice makes perfect. The other 25% that I wasn't familiar with I found really helpful. This included working with php and Javascript. For our final project we had to build a website and integrate everything we had learned in class. Check out the website HERE.
Internship at the Mary Brogan Museum of Arts and Science - I had the pleasure of working at the Mary Brogan Museum under the Guidance of Keith Hodge, the museum's Network Administrator. It was a great experience because it allowed me to work with parts of IT that were unfamiliar to me. For example, I was never really sure how servers, networks, and domains worked, but by the end of summer I had a good understanding of how to manipulate domains within a server so that no information was lost or that an update was successful. Not only did I learn some technical skills, but I was also immersed into the office setting, something which I had not really experienced before. If you're interested in a more in-depth analysis of my journey check out the blog that I had for the internship HERE
Building My First Website - I was very excited when I learned that I would be able to choose my own project for the IT Project course. Immediately I began to think about ways that I could increase my skills in web development and design. I thought that making a website from scratch would be a great chance for me to dive head first into something I had wanted to learn very much and something I had not done before. The website was centered around a video, it's characters, and content. The link to a more in-depth approach of the project and all of its details is HERE. It includes a play by play of the project and a BLOG dedicated to the completion of the project.
I think I learned several skills during my experience in IT Project. I learned how to work with XHTML, CSS, Photoshop, and Windows Movie Maker. I believe that an attractive website always brings a bigger crowd, which is why I feel that the skills I picked up will help me design useful yet appealing websites.
Making My First Interactive Resume - Although the course "Perspectives on Information Technology" deals heavily with the Interactive Resume, it was "Electronic Media Design" that dealt with the shell. This course provided me with the first glimpse of XHTML and CSS. I immediately had a interest for both since I enjoy building websites. I learned about validating, proper tags, proper nesting, and It allowed me to use my information architecture skills. The finished product is HERE. This assignment also allowed me to work with graphics, more specifically with Photoshop, and also allowed me to use my creativity.
Working with Wordpress - Usually a blog can be done at a simple blogging website such as blogger.com or typepad.com. The blog sites usually have about 3-5 easy steps to create a blog and all you need is to give them some information. Instead of going through the cookie-cutter route, I had to download several files from wordpress and upload them onto the school's server. This not only gave me more control of my content, but it gave me the opportunity to work with a secure shell, as well as the look of my blog. The blog is simple and doesn't have much content, but I think it was important to have the experience of manipulating code and uploading files onto a server. Check out the blog HERE.
Writing a Proposal as an IT Consultant - This assignment was particularly helpful with my abilities to write in a professional and coherent manner. It allowed me to be part of a group helping out a firm in need of more technology. As team manager I was able to delegate different tasks among team members, learn about time management, and orally represent my work. The assignment took a semester to put together and I feel like the finished product not only presented my abilities in writing, but also my professionalism.

Building a Website for the Epilepsy Association of Big Bend - This assignment was helpful in that it gave me an opportunity to work on a website with a group. Because at the time my coding abilities were not as strong as they are now, I decided to be in charge of how the website was to look, as well as how the information was laid out. My work consisted of making sure the website looked attractive while maintaining the importance of information presentation. While working on this project I encountered many difficulties more specifically with group dynamics. It was important for me to maintain a level of professionalism while delivering my ideas and standing my ground. I believe that I learned several communication skills because of these difficulties including; the ability to delegate tasks, maintain a positive and professional outlook on the project, and the ability to create an atmosphere where everyone's input was taken into consideration.
